Useful German Shopping Phrases
These phrases help you ask for items, check prices, pay at the checkout and request help politely.
At a clothing shop
Verkäuferin: Guten Tag! Kann ich Ihnen helfen?
Kundin: Ja, ich suche eine Jacke.
Verkäuferin: Welche Größe brauchen Sie?
Kundin: Größe M, bitte. Kann ich die Jacke anprobieren?
Verkäuferin: Natürlich. Die Umkleidekabine ist dort.
Kundin: Danke. Was kostet die Jacke?
Verkäuferin: Sie kostet 49 Euro.
Kundin: Gut, ich nehme sie. Kann ich mit Karte bezahlen?
Verkäuferin: Ja, natürlich.
English practice: The customer is looking for a jacket in size M, tries it on, asks the price and pays by card.
Remember German nouns with their articles
Learn der, die or das together with every noun. For example: die Kasse, der Preis, das Angebot. This makes it easier to use the words correctly in sentences and questions.
