Your guide to German learning resources.
A connected German learning resource hub
The Fortgang Institut Explore page brings together German courses, grammar support, vocabulary practice, flashcards, learning materials, placement-style practice, Goethe exam preparation, and resources for discovering Germany. It is designed as a starting point for learners who want to find the right resource without searching through disconnected pages. Select a destination based on your current level, learning goal, or next question.
Learn German from beginner to advanced levels
German learners commonly progress through CEFR levels A1, A2, B1, B2, C1, and C2. The right learning path depends on your current skills and goals. Beginners may focus on everyday phrases, basic grammar, and listening comprehension. Intermediate learners can work on longer conversations, reading, writing, and independent communication. Advanced learners may focus on nuance, complex texts, and precise expression. Use structured lessons alongside regular review and active practice.
Practise German vocabulary and grammar
Vocabulary and grammar work best when you use them together. Flashcards and word lists can help you review useful language, while grammar explanations can clarify how words change and how sentences are formed. To deepen learning, place new vocabulary in example sentences, revisit it over time, and use it in speaking or writing rather than relying on recognition alone.
Prepare for Goethe-Zertifikat exams
If your goal is a Goethe-Zertifikat, combine general language development with targeted practice in listening, reading, writing, and speaking. Learn the current exam format for your level, practise task types, review mistakes, and consult official exam information for current requirements. A placement-style quiz on this website is for practice and guidance; it is not an official CEFR assessment or a substitute for a recognised language certificate.
Discover German culture, study, and career pathways
German Beyond Classroom connects language learning with authentic media and cultural discovery. If you are researching university study, scholarships, or Ausbildung, use the relevant hub as an introduction and confirm eligibility, application deadlines, language requirements, and visa information with official institutions. Requirements vary by programme, occupation, and individual circumstances.
How to use this learning universe
Start with one clear objective, choose a relevant resource, and decide how you will use it. For example, review vocabulary after a lesson, practise a grammar topic before writing, or explore a German podcast to improve listening. Return to the Explore page whenever your goal changes. It connects the main learning destinations so you can build a routine that fits your needs.
Where should I start learning German?
If you are new to German, explore the course pages and A1 vocabulary resources. If you already know some German, use a placement-style quiz as a starting point and choose a level to investigate. The quiz is not an official language certification.
What German learning resources are available here?
Explore course pages, grammar resources, vocabulary and flashcards, independent learning materials, placement-style practice, Goethe exam preparation, and German Beyond Classroom resources.
Can these resources help me prepare for a Goethe-Zertifikat?
They can support learning and practice. For exam readiness, combine them with current official exam information and targeted practice in all required skills for your chosen level.
Can I use Explore to research studying or working in Germany?
Explore links to study and Ausbildung information hubs. Use official universities and relevant government or recognised information services to confirm requirements, deadlines, funding, and visa rules.
Is the Explore page an official German placement or certification tool?
No. Explore is a navigation and resource hub. Any placement-style practice linked from it is informal guidance and does not award an official CEFR level or certificate.
