Learn how to speak German in real-life situations. This practical guide includes everyday conversations, English translations, useful expressions, vocabulary, and speaking practice for A1–A2 learners.

A1–A2Everyday GermanDialogues + TranslationSpeaking Practice

How to use this guide

Read each dialogue once for the general meaning. Read it again and notice the expressions that speakers use. Then cover the English translation and practise speaking the German lines aloud. Finally, change the details—your name, city, order, appointment time, or destination—and perform the dialogue with a partner.

Important: The dialogues are model conversations. In real life, people may use shorter sentences, different expressions, or regional forms. Both formal Sie and informal du are included where appropriate.

Formal or informal? Use du with friends, family, children, and people who have invited you to use it. Use Sie in many professional and service situations, especially when speaking to an unfamiliar adult. Context and personal preference matter; follow the other person's lead.

Final learning tip

Do not try to memorize every dialogue word for word. Learn reusable sentence patterns, practise them aloud, and replace the details with information from your own life. A small set of flexible phrases can help you manage many everyday conversations.

Start with one scenario per day. Read it, listen to yourself speaking, and repeat it until the expressions feel natural.
